**Craig Carton** (0:00)
Here's Reynaldo, Oyster Bay. Reynaldo, how are you today?
**SPEAKER_2** (0:03)
Hey, good job, Craig. Good job, Big Mac. I'm sitting here in Oyster Bay at work looking at Mr. Dolan's Knickerbocker yacht. Very nice. But he needs the flags on there. It's no flags on there. So next time you see Jimmy, tell him he's got to put some Knickerbocker flags on there, championship flags.
**Craig Carton** (0:20)
Well, I think now that he's a champion, he doesn't mind people knowing it's his boat. I think pre-championship, you don't want people in Oyster Bay knowing it's your boat.
**SPEAKER_2** (0:30)
That's correct. That is correct. So I worked for Charles for 10 years, Jimmy lived right next door. So Chuck was the greatest guy 18 months, since he's been gone. He would have loved Jeff today, classy, great, great guy.
But Craig, to get you a ring, I will tell you when he owned MSG, the Yankees sent him 1998, 1999 and 2000 ring from the Yankees when he owned the MSG network.
**Craig Carton** (0:59)
Okay.
**SPEAKER_2** (0:59)
And I put all three on the 98 one with 125 diamonds, probably the nicest ring I've ever seen in my life.
**Craig Carton** (1:07)
Wow. Okay.
**Chris McMonigle** (1:09)
They sent him for being the TV partner, obviously.
**Craig Carton** (1:12)
I assume, yeah.
**Chris McMonigle** (1:12)
MSG, the TV partner, yeah, yeah.
**Pasquale** (1:14)
Yes, yes.
**SPEAKER_2** (1:15)
So, and Craig, so that means you can get a ring because they give them out to anybody.
**Craig Carton** (1:21)
So, well, Charles, to be fair, Charles Dolan wasn't just anybody. Like he tried to buy the Yankees from George Steinbrenner back in the late 90s. For $600 million.
**SPEAKER_2** (1:34)
Wow. He wasn't allowed because I believe his brother owned the Indians, who was another great guy.
So, it's a great family.
**Craig Carton** (1:43)
Yeah.
**SPEAKER_2** (1:43)
It's a great family. But I will tell you, Modine got on that bus because he was the first guy at Helen and Chuck's Fourth of July party every year. He was the first guy online and I had to park his car. And I'm like, dude, you're here an hour before.
**Craig Carton** (2:00)
Great. So, although I appreciate you very, very much. Yeah. A lot of people, everybody knows obviously about, you know, the TV rights part of things, right? You know, a pre-yes and all that stuff. But Charles Dolan did try to buy the New York Yankees from George Steinbrenner. I think the bid got up to nearly, I remember it was 600 million. It may have been even higher than that, but I know it wasn't a billion and I remember. So I just call it 600, 700 million dollars. Yeah. And ultimately the deal obviously fell through.
And Howell's grateful that it did, obviously. But the Dolans were this close to owning the New York Yankees. And I don't know why it fell through at the time. It was 98
So right in the middle of the dynasty.
**Chris McMonigle** (2:41)
I couldn't imagine George selling in the middle of championships like that. That would have been.
**Craig Carton** (2:46)
No. And remember, George never owned more than like 35% of the Yankees.
**Chris McMonigle** (2:50)
Right.
**Craig Carton** (2:50)
He just had the, he had the controlling interest in it. But you know, the Simon family was never the majority owner of the Yankees from day one. Just the way they did the deal that he got to make all the decisions for the Yankees. But yeah, they almost sold it to the Dolan family, which means they would have owned the Knicks, the Rangers and the Yankees.
Right. That'd make them the most powerful sports family in America.
**Chris McMonigle** (3:10)
Oh my God.
**Craig Carton** (3:11)
By default. Yeah. Right.
**Chris McMonigle** (3:12)
The Knicks, Rangers and Yankees.
**Craig Carton** (3:13)
The Knicks, Rangers and Yankees in the late 90s.
Right. You got the Yankee dynasty going on. Obviously you're a couple years removed from the 94, at least Stanley Cup championship.
**Chris McMonigle** (3:23)
The Knicks are in the NBA finals.
**Craig Carton** (3:24)
And the Knicks go to the finals in 99
**Chris McMonigle** (3:25)
Team in 98, 99 Yeah.
**Craig Carton** (3:27)
Right. Wow. Yeah.
I love, I gotta ask Jim one day why that deal didn't happen. He must know the story behind that deal, right?
**Chris McMonigle** (3:37)
I would think. I'm curious to see how it goes.
**Craig Carton** (3:40)
Like his pops must have said, like, just a conversation.
**Chris McMonigle** (3:42)
I wonder if that's something that still goes on. Everyone's always asking if the Steinbrenner's looking to sell the team.
