First and foremost, they have to move Francisco Lindor. They have to get rid of him. And I think they have to get rid of him. You know, he's got what, five years left on his contract after this year, I think.
**Evan Roberts** (0:09)
Yep.
**Boomer Esiason** (0:10)
So he's essentially five and a half. So finding a suitor is not going to be easy with the amount of money that he makes to the age he makes it to. And, you know, he's starting to come on. He's starting to hit a little bit. But I think with the uncertainty of next year, nobody knows whether or not there's going to be baseball next year. We all believe that there's going to be a lockout, especially when you listen to each side back and forth, going through all their different ideas of what the new CBA should look like. But I think there would be people that would want Francisco Lindor. I do too. And I just think it's enough.
I feel the same way I felt about when Carmelo Anthony was here with the Knicks.
**Evan Roberts** (0:50)
Ooh, I don't like that comparison.
**Boomer Esiason** (0:51)
And the reason I say that is because both are superstars, both are all-stars, both are going to be, you know, maybe Francisco Lindor, if he continues on this path, maybe he'll turn out to be a Hall of Fame or someday like Carmelo did, but it's just not working. It's just, it doesn't feel right. It doesn't feel like whether they, he should have been the captain, wasn't the captain, isn't the captain, gets along with Soto, doesn't get along with Soto. It's just, it's too much. It's too much negativity around the team. And for him, it would probably be a license to go play for a team that has a chance to win a World Series because right now as the Mets are currently constituted, they are so far away from a World Series and a playoff berth that now it's time for David Stearns to start saying, okay, how do we reset this thing? We have a couple pieces that we like that we can build around, but this to me, I would start by trying to move him if I could.
**Evan Roberts** (1:44)
If I could. But you're also, you're talking about a complete tear down though, too, now.
**Boomer Esiason** (1:48)
Well, you have to be. Well, of course, I mean, he's an all-star player or had been an all-star player, but there's just, there's too much negatives around him. I'm not saying it's all his fault. I think it's a lot of different factors that, you know, I always said about Carmelo, great player, but bad coaching, bad decisions, bad, you know, situation around him doesn't bring the best out in him, only brings the worst out in him.
And I think like if you compare it to the way the Knicks unselfishly won about their season this year, especially in the playoffs, you see what it takes to win. You know, yeah, you have stars, but they don't have to be the top five guys in a league. They just have to be the top team in a league and they all have to come together. I don't feel like the Mets have any of that. Now I can sit here and look at the Yankees and I could say the reason they don't have it right now is because Aaron Judge is not on the field. He's such a towering presence both in the line up and right field and then of course in the locker room. He is the ultimate guy that everybody looks up to and he leads by example. So I know why they're not winning. I know why they're having troubles.
The Mets just...
**Evan Roberts** (3:01)
But it's obvious though with the Mets, they can't pitch. I mean, the funny thing with the Mets is if you want to go back to the middle of last year, where all of this crap started happening, meaning the losing and consistent losing for the most part. It's a full calendar year now. It's when the pitching collapsed. And I'm not saying I wouldn't trade Lindor. I get that point 100%.
And I think it might even be in the best interest of the team going forward. The issue I would have with it is, are we now resetting it? And again, we're going on the assumption that there is baseball, even though there might not be. But let's just assume there is baseball next year. If you trade Francisco Lindor, you're getting back, I would think, a haul of picks probably.
