**Craig Carton** (0:01)
Because I'm bored by it. You've got a football on the horizon, which I'm very excited about.
I had to convince myself that the Jets are going to have a really good season. And now I'm back to just not trusting Geno Smith at all.
**Chris McMonigle** (0:12)
It's not even just trusting Geno Smith. Because again, we talked about this yesterday. Is it that big a deal?
**Craig Carton** (0:18)
No, it is not.
**Chris McMonigle** (0:19)
It's not, but it's just the Jets.
**Craig Carton** (0:22)
It's the frequency.
**Chris McMonigle** (0:23)
The Jets need to win so that these stories don't make us feel this way.
I've been saying this about the Jets for a while. They just need a winning season so that every single stupid thing that comes out doesn't make us think the Jets are doomed. Because that's what happens. You're getting closer to the season. You're just waiting for the year to start. You're feeling good about the team. You're feeling good about Mugee for sure. Even if you're not high on Glenn and I'm not.
You feel good about Mugee. You feel good about the draft. You feel good about the way they've executed their plan. You feel good about the trade. You feel good. He seems like a real competition.
**Craig Carton** (0:54)
He's going in the right direction for sure.
**Chris McMonigle** (0:56)
It honestly feels that way. Not that the Geno Smith story knocks you off that track or makes you feel the Jets have been knocked off that track because ultimately who's Geno Smith? He's a one year quarterback that nobody has real high expectations for.
**Craig Carton** (1:10)
That's a reminder. Geno Smith getting pulled over for the third time in a month and having these problems is a reminder to me not to get too pumped up for the Jets starting this resurgence to at least, I don't know, decency, right?
It's a reminder to me that I think we're going to be a better football team and I think the draft picks are going to prove that. The trades he's made obviously I think give the Jets great opportunities in next year's draft as well with three number ones and all that, right?
Every time Geno Smith is in the news, it's a reminder to me, which might be a good thing I guess, that Geno Smith is a one and done. The long term star quarterback of the New York Jets is going to be the guy we draft next year. Knock on wood, we picked the right guy obviously, right? So to me, it's just a reminder that yes, the Jets are going to be better, but we're not going to be better enough. But it's a reminder to me, we don't have our quarterback. So Geno in a weird way is doing me a favor. Every time he's a knucklehead and gets pulled over by the cops, driving someone else's car without a driver's license, doing almost twice the speed limit in his own neighborhood, it's a reminder to me that we only have to deal with him for one year. And then we can start the reclamation project, I'll give the Jets back to respectability.
**Chris McMonigle** (2:41)
That's all. See, but it's a reminder to me that the Jets franchise is a crap magnet.
**Craig Carton** (2:47)
No, don't say that.
**Chris McMonigle** (2:47)
They're a crap magnet.
**Craig Carton** (2:48)
No, we're not.
**Chris McMonigle** (2:48)
That's what they are. They're a magnet that... For crap?
They find it, if it comes anywhere in their perimeter, it just gets drawn to them.
**Craig Carton** (2:57)
You don't think the Giants are a crap magnet?
**Chris McMonigle** (2:58)
They have been.
**Craig Carton** (2:59)
You better acknowledge it. You better say it with your chest.
**Chris McMonigle** (3:02)
I'm just...
**Craig Carton** (3:03)
Both football teams.
**Chris McMonigle** (3:04)
Absolutely.
**Craig Carton** (3:05)
You didn't say that about the Giants last segment. You said the Jets are crap magnets. Yeah. The Giants are attracting more crap than the Jets are.
That's right. But I didn't hear you say it.
**Chris McMonigle** (3:17)
Because you were talking about how the quarterback hasn't done anything.
**Craig Carton** (3:19)
That's right.
**Chris McMonigle** (3:20)
So now we're talking about the quarterback that has done something. It just reminds me that both these teams need to win and need to cleanse the palette so that everything that circles their orbit doesn't get pulled and sucked in with all this crap. It's unbelievable. Every single thing that happens.
Like Geno Smith, when's the last time he was in the news for anything else other than either interceptions or resurrecting his career? But he comes to the Jets and suddenly he's getting pulled over left and right.
