All right, 5.30. McMonigle here with you on The Carton Show. Got you till 7 o'clock Yankee baseball, as Max Fried takes the mound against the Chicago White Sox. Tonight, pregame at 7 o'clock. You'll hear this guy right here, a little bit in the pregame and the postgame. Emmanuel Berbari joins me now. What's going on, Emmanuel? How are you?
**Emmanuel Berbari** (0:17)
I'm doing well, how are you? A week until the trade deadline.
**Chris McMonigle** (0:19)
That's it, a week until the trade deadline. It's happening fast.
And it's actually later than usual, and it's still happening fast.
**Emmanuel Berbari** (0:27)
August 3rd.
**Chris McMonigle** (0:27)
August 3rd. But first I want to ask you, and I know you're a big Knicks fan.
**Emmanuel Berbari** (0:30)
Right.
**Chris McMonigle** (0:31)
I want to ask you about LeBron real quick, just to ease us all in to Yankee talk here for a second.
Join the Philadelphia 76ers. Let me ask you just because I'm very vain, and I'm trying to see if other people agree with me. Are you somewhat, now that we're champions as Knicks fans, and we're sitting on top of the throne and everybody has to come at us, everyone's trying to figure out how to be good enough to beat the Knicks right now.
**Emmanuel Berbari** (0:52)
Isn't that amazing by the way? It's amazing. It's amazing. I love it.
**Chris McMonigle** (0:55)
But LeBron in Philadelphia, are you almost half excited for the prospect of LeBron, the spectacle, the new energy that it gives to a Knicks-Sixers kind of rivalry? And hope that, not that you want them to be dominant necessarily, but I don't want it to fail and just be one of these super teams that never get it together and he's hurt and Bede's hurt and they end up being like a seven or eight seed. I kind of want them to be right there. And right now they're projected to be the second best team in the Eastern Conference.
Someone's got to be.
I think it could be them. And I love the idea of sending him home in the Eastern Conference Finals for the final time of his career. So where do you sit on LeBron? Do you hope that the Sixers just become a disaster because we want the easiest path to a championship or now that we can be obnoxious? Do you look at this and say, bring it on, I welcome the rivalry?
**Emmanuel Berbari** (1:46)
I'm glad you mentioned the word obnoxious because I want all the smoke. I was in a spot, even as of early this postseason, I was that cautious, insecure Knicks fan who had been burned way too many times.
Spanning back to down 2-1 to Atlanta, I was thinking to myself, okay, here we go again. I was pessimistic on the team. They got it all together and they got it all together to such a level where they blew through the league and they embarrassed the rest of the league, frankly. Now, I've allowed myself to become cocky as a Knicks fan. I don't care what LeBron does. They could flame out, but I want the smoke. I want them in the Eastern Conference Finals and I want to pummel them by a combined average of 25 points a game.
**Chris McMonigle** (2:22)
I'm with you. I think that's when you go on a run like that. And go 15-1 at one point and lose three games by a total of six points combined.
Now, bring it all on. Bring on the super team that is the starting five with Philly.
**Emmanuel Berbari** (2:37)
There's no other time in our lives where we could be this cocky as Knicks fans, so why not now? Just do it now and get it all out of your ether now.
**Chris McMonigle** (2:44)
Absolutely. Listen, it's not the same as that dominant 90s team, Yankee team, but we, I don't know if you remember as well as I do, but like we, I remember my coach, the playoffs, I don't think the playoffs have even started or it might have been in the DS, but we had a practice, it was 2000, I was a senior in high school, and we had a practice for football, and my coach told us, I'm telling you right now, if you guys, it must have happened the year before, I don't remember, but he said to us, if any of you miss practice or don't come to school the day of the parade, I'm telling you right now, now I know I guess it was Mets, the Mets were in the playoffs too, but this is like the ALDS, and he was telling us, you better not go to the parade. Like it was assumed that there was gonna be a parade, that the Yankees were gonna win, and there was gonna be a parade, and last year Brian missed it, and he couldn't play in the game, and that's not happening again this year.
