Right. She was born in 1976 when Belgrade was still part of Yugoslavia.
Her entry point into this deeply American music wasn't some grand pilgrimage to the states. It was literally her own living room.

Yeah. The catalyst was her father, Milton Popovic. Right. According to the biographical sources, he was this massive blues aficionado. He had an extensive, carefully curated record collection.

Wow, a sonic sanctuary. I love that. So she picks up the guitar around age 15, and she clearly had this intense natural aptitude.
Because by 1995, she had already formed her own band called Hush.

Yeah. And looking at their early set lists, they weren't just playing standard paint by numbers 12-bar blues.

Not at all. They were already mixing rhythm and blues with, like, heavy elements of funk and soul.

Which is wild for a teenager in Belgrade. That instinct to cross-pollinate genres is visible literally from day one.

They started out playing a local Belgrade club called Vok, just testing this fusion out on local audiences. But the ambition was clearly too large for just one venue.

Yeah. The tour logs from this era show them pushing their geographic boundaries incredibly fast. They started playing all across Serbia, and then they pushed down into Greece.
